Robert Hutsell

Business Manager/Secretary-Treasurer

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Our new Boilermakers Local 169 Union Hall is now officially open for business.  Our new facility is located at 1755 Fairlane Drive, Allen Park, MI 48101.  We can still be reached at (313) 584-8520 and faxed at (313) 584-8777.

An Open House & Grand Opening was held on Friday, January 29, 2010 at the hall, and many members, retirees, International officers, contractors, customers and politicians attended.  Click on the pictures on the left to see images from the opening.

The Boilermakers National History Department installed all of the artwork displayed in our building, featuring photos from the past and present, along with murals and display cases filled with archives and documents from our local.  If you have not yet had the chance to take a tour of our new facility, please feel free to drop by and take a look.  It is something for our entire membership to be proud of!

Is global warming real?

I encourage all of you to take the time to watch this video from John Coleman, who is the co-founder of The Weather Channel, and judge for yourself.

The International Brotherhood of Boilermakers Scholarship applications are now available at the union hall.  If you would like an application, please contact Heidi at the union hall.

Effective January 2010, monthly membership dues will be $39.00 per month Due to a new billing system implemented by the International’s Membership Department, we must now strictly enforce the dues policy and suspension procedures as written in the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers Constitution.  Members who are 60 days past due on their union dues will be suspended and will have to pay a reinstatement fee in order to become a member in good standing.

Please click here for more information.  If you need to find out what you owe in union dues, do not hesitate to contact Kathy or Heidi at the union hall.

Attention Area Two Members: Welder Certification Updates for members whose skills are set to expire will be held at the Consumers Training Center, Muskegon Service Center, 2021 Hoyt Street, Muskegon Heights, MI 49444. Please note that THIS IS FOR UPDATES ONLY. Anyone with questions should contact Jim Kaffenberger at (616) 296-9131

The Labor School at Wayne State University is a highly affordable certificate program designed to teach leadership development and labor history.  There are no exams and no grades, and graduates of the Labor School can enroll as undergraduates at Wayne State with no further admission requirements other than an application.  The Labor School counts as 10 elective credits. Click here to learn more about the program and how to enroll.
