Raising the knowledge levels of all Boilermakers, the MOST Rigging Program highlights the hazards associated with rigging on the job site while providing pre-job training to qualified Boilermakers. Classes consist of four eight-hour modules that supplement BNAP training and allows for journeymen upgrading.
Since 2008 this program has led to enhancements and improvements to the overall safety training programs specific to the Boilermaker trade. |
Course Objectives: Rigging Inspection & Use Module #1
- Explain the responsibilities of the rigger
- Become familiar with various rigging components
- Discuss safety regulations as related to the topic
- Learn inspection criteria for rigging components
- Learn where the first signs of wear and defects occur
- Discuss the actual uses and application of rigging components
- Learn how to prevent damaging rigging components
- Learn how to interpret rigging capacity charts and tables
- Discuss concepts such as; SWL/WLL, impact/shock loading, sling angles

Course Objectives - Crane Rigging Module #3
- Become familiar with different types of cranes
- Understand crane nomenclature
- Identify crane parts
- Learn how to spot a crane
- Learn how to read capacity and load charts
- Develop an understanding of lift classifications
- Review the components of a comprehensive rigging lift plan
- Become familiar with the safety regulations pertaining to rigging
- Review associated hazards with working around cranes
- Discuss causes of crane accidents and preventative solutions
- Learn proper communication methods
- Discuss good safety and skill practices
- Utilize suspended personnel platforms
Course Objectives - Rigging Drawings, Calculations & Set-up Module #4
- Follow contractors rigging drawings
- How to set up a laydown yard
